Basic combat rules

Ludosport is based on self-declaration of hits. Without high-tech equipment strapped to the athletes, the combat is based on the honesty and perception of the athletes and official judges. As an athlete receives a trike from an opponent’s blade, they must declare where they got hit.

If the athlete got hit below the elbow; below the knee; or on the hilt, that is a non-lethal strike. The athlete must audibly declare “IH” and remove their lightsaber from between themselves and their opponent for a brief moment. This should allow their opponent to attempt to get the lethal strike on the briefly disarmed athlete. The athlete may still move around the arena to evade their opponent while this happens.

Anywhere else on the body counts as a lethal strike. The athlete must then declare “OH” and open up just as with an “IH”. When this happens, the official will stop the match to award the point to the opponent. The opening of the body is done in case the point was invalidated and the official decides to continue the combat mid-action.

Other than self-declaration, the sport has clearly set rules on the sabers that are allowed to be used and the customisation that can be on them. The sport also does not condone stabbing with the tip of the blade of intentionally striking the face or the chest. The full rules of Ludosport can be found here: https://bit.ly/incomarc
